Almost every business has to meet targets and measure its effectiveness in monetary terms. Finance officers describe this as seeking a Return on Investment: quantifiable evidence that an activity leads to increased productivity, sales or revenue.

Corporate training courses use a similar approach to ensure that an overriding objective – or series of objectives – is met. A training objective is not, of course, tied to monetary outcomes.
